Our Story

How We Met

After an evening of texts back and forth on New Year's Eve, Steven took the leap and asked Rodney out for coffee on January 1, 2021. They met in Ogunquit, because Rodney said it was halfway...not quite. Meeting on the corner outside of The Front Porch they took a long walk on Ogunquit Beach on what was an unseasonably warm day. Apparently most of Southern Maine had the same idea as there were hundreds of people out strolling the beach that day. Steven & Rodney enjoyed each other's company for what turned into a several hour stroll.

The Proposal

We both knew that getting married was the next step in our relationship. We just could not agree on how we would get engaged. It would be a mutual proposal, but not sure how or when. We believed the right moment would present itself.
While on vacation, there was a lot of kidding back and forth or various spots we could propose including Steven accidently being on one knee atop the Tower Bridge in London - nope that wasn't the moment!

While in Maastricht, Netherlands, we had a nice dinner in town and spent much of the evening walking about the old city. The history and architecture of the city puts you in such a peaceful state of mind. We were making our way back to our hotel, crossing the oldest footbridge in Europe when we both stopped midway to take in the incredible view of the full moon over the river.

Rodney turned to the moon, looked up and said, "What a perfect evening."
Steven quickly responded, "To become a we?"

Steven had secretly fashioned a ring out of the receipt from dinner while we walked about town in order to seal the deal!

At that point, we both knew it was time for US to become a WE! 6.2.23
