Our Story
How We Met
Kehl and Jacob first met on September 1, 2020, in Athens, GA, while both were students at the University of Georgia. That summer, Kehl’s friend, Mya, mentioned she had a friend she thought Kehl should meet. Although Kehl was preparing to move to Washington, D.C. for an internship in her second semester and wasn't focused on dating, Mya arranged for a dinner the evening of August 31, inviting a friend and his roommate.
The next day Kehl joined Mya and the guys at Cali N Tito’s. She enjoyed the dinner and found herself connecting with the roommate, Jacob. Their first official date took place at Longhorn, followed by stargazing at Lake Herrick. By September 19, they decided to make their relationship official, and Jacob and Kehl have been together ever since.
Over the past four years, they’ve experienced many adventures: Kehl’s move to D.C. for her internship, her time living in Atlanta while Jacob stayed in Athens, their graduation from UGA, Jacob starting his career in insurance and Kehl’s move to France to teach English. Along the way, they’ve traveled to amazing places like Mexico, Napa, France, Spain, Utah and New York City. Now residing in Atlanta, they’re thrilled to be in the same city and are excited to celebrate this next milestone with friends and family.
The Proposal
On August 23, 2024, Jacob proposed to Kehl on the beach at Sullivan's Island, SC, a location that is near and dear to the couple. Leading up to the proposal, Jacob shared his plans, telling Kehl that the ring wouldn’t be ready until October or later. When Jacob suggested stopping in Charleston on their way to Hilton Head Island for Kehl’s family vacation, she thought nothing of it, as they often visit that area with her family.
That evening, after dining at their favorite restaurant, Obstinate Daughter, they took a stroll on the beach. As they walked, Kehl playfully shared her ideas for the perfect proposal. Suddenly, to her surprise, Jacob was actually proposing. At first, she thought he was joking, but when he revealed the ring, she realized it was her dream ring and proposal.
The following day, they arrived in Hilton Head Island to join Kehl’s family for vacation. Upon entering the condo, they were greeted with festive decorations and champagne. Shortly after walking in, Jacob’s parents and sister came around the corner to surprise Kehl. Both families were able to spend several days together celebrating the engagement. Needless to say, Jacob pulled off everything Kehl shared as her dream proposal and day. Her biggest request was that he surprise her, and he absolutely did.
