Our Story
How We Met
In August of 2017, I was working my summer at the local hospital in Blacksburg and worked the graveyard shift as a registrar in the ED. I had just returned home in the morning and was preparing to fall asleep. When a sudden knock on the door alerted me, and in a disheveled manner, trudged to the door with my furry companion by my side. It was Haley, and unbeknownst to me, a key was left in my apartment for her to move into her sublet through our mutual friend, Olivia. She asked about my pup, asking questions like, “What’s his name?” “How long have you had him?” and “Is he deaf?” Haley then became part of the friend group, but she became much more than a friend very quickly to me.
The Proposal
Jonathon took us to Blacksburg for a little adventure to break up the stress of vet school. I was told that we would go hiking and just walk about downtown. I packed my backpack with leggings, wool socks, a couple flannels and my barn coat. We loaded pup in the car and we drove to our alma mater. As we pulled into our AirBnB, it started snowing. Jon seemed nervous about the weather and kept asking if I was still comfortable with hiking up to the cascades. I did not prepare for snow but I had wool socks and Chacos. We drove up to the trail head and it had snowed quite a bit. Jon, pup and I trekked up to the falls through the snow. The trail up to the cascades was spectacular. We arrive to the falls and I was elated that Jon jumped to set up at phone to take pictures. Little did I know he was actually recording us! He proposed to me right there in front of the frozen landscape and it was beautiful. I was so elated and he went even further by inviting both our parents to spend the day with us to celebrate. It was a wonderful weekend. 10/28/17 we started dating, he proposed 3/26/22 and we are excited to get married 10/26/24.
