Our Story
How We Met
Turiya and Matt first met at the age of 13 while attending the late Flagstaff Middle School (RIP). Their earliest memories together were spent goofing around in a junior high cooking class making Matt’s famous chocolate chip omelet. Fast forward to their Flagstaff High School years, they found themselves in various classes together including English and Choir. This was also when Matt helped Turiya get hired at Harkins Theatres and they spent countless hours cleaning auditoriums and selling popcorn together. Throughout this time they grew to know each other and became better friends, but wouldn’t start dating until later.
After graduating from high school in 2014, they didn’t speak or see each other again for another 4 years. That is until 4th of July 2018 when they reconnected at a coffee shop and chatted for nearly 3 hours. That is when their story truly began.
The Proposal
In the thick of COVID, Turiya and Matt had planned a trip to Yosemite National Park for their two year anniversary. After a long drive and unexpected change of plans, they finally arrived at the Upper Yosemite Falls Trailhead. While they didn’t know what to expect or where they were going to sleep that night, they were eager to summit the falls. After a grueling uphill hike, they made it to the top where Matt got down on one knee. Thankfully for them, there happened to be one other couple up there to capture the moment.
