Our Story
How We Met
Mike and Colleen grew up less than a half mile from each other, both attending Glen Acres Elementary School, Fugett Middle School, and West Chester East High School. However, it wasn't until College at West Chester University where they first met. Mike was friends with Colleen's older sister Kristen in College, but in Mike's Senior Year at WCU and her Freshman Year, Colleen came to a party with her best friend Jamie (whose brother is a good friend of Mike's) at Mike's house and it's here where they officially met.
With their birthday's only a day apart, the two for years would never miss wishing each other a Happy Birthday thru Facebook and often hear things about each other thru mutual friends. It wasn't until 2020 that the couple's mutual friend Veronica thought they would be good match and helped organize a re-connection. Mike often jokes that Colleen was reluctant to go on an initial date, but on Halloween of 2020, Mike was invited over to Jamie's house for a party as she had recently moved around the corner from his house in the borough. Dressed in a full adidas track suit equipped with a bottle of wine for the party host, Colleen met Mike at the door where they proceeded to not leave each others company for the rest of night. Halloween will forever be a holiday to celebrate as that is the day their love began.
The Proposal
After the birth of their son Caden, Colleen did not expect a proposal any time soon, but little did she know he had plans to propose for awhile. He wanted to make it as much of a surprise as possible, while involving all the people in their lives who helped them get to where they were as a couple. The Clark family for years had discussed throwing an outdoor party at Mike's parents house that they dubbed "Clarkapalooza" but had never pulled the trigger on it. Mike thought that using the disguise of this party would be the perfect mask for actually scheduling a proposal in front of all their loved ones. The party was held over Colleen and Mike's Birthday weekend, so there was even more ways to disguise that the true nature of the party was to propose.
To make the day even more special, Mike ensured that Colleen would have everyone there she loved, so he spoke to her best friend Jamie and got her to fly home from Denver for the weekend to be there. When Colleen arrived, we told her it wasn't JUST Clarkapalooza, but also a SURPRISE Birthday party for HER. When Jamie arrived and surprised Colleen she figured that was the big surprise of the day for her. Once the happy tears settled, the entire group was gathered where we sang Colleen "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". When the song ended, Colleen turned around to Caden holding a sign saying "WILL YOU MARRY MY DADDY?" and Mike on one knee. After a thankful YES, the rest of the day was a celebration of love!
