Our Story
How We Met
We met in college in August 2018. We started out as study buddies, taking similar classes together through graduation, and even transitioned from our majors in NRE (Nuclear and Radiological Engineering) to ME (Mechanical Engineering) the same summer in 2019. We started dating after graduation. Ben began his full-time job while Rachel continued full-time pursuing a Master's in ME. During our time together, we would learn new recipes, try new games, discover local eats, and share our passions. Some of our favorite memories together include our first cruise adventure and magical days at Disney. In 2023, Rachel moved to Huntsville, Alabama, to start her career, and Ben transitioned to the Huntsville location with his company soon after. Since then, Rachel adopted a queen-bee, food-obsessed, bossy, green-eyed, beautiful, mama cat named Apple, who is loved and cherished. One of the biggest adventures yet came in April 2025, when we traveled to Japan for 2.5 unforgettable weeks during cherry blossom season.
The Proposal
As our journey through Japan neared its end, we decided to carve out some quiet moments amidst our whirlwind of sightseeing. Ben arranged a serene spa experience for Rachel at a traditional Japanese ryokan in Hakone, complete with a multi-course kaiseki dinner. After the rejuvenating spa session and before dinner, in the tranquil setting of Hakone, Ben proposed to Rachel on April 16, 2025. With a joyful "yes," Rachel agreed to spend forever together. And then kept it a secret until they returned to the United States, where she could get pictures taken and surprise everyone. >:)
