Our Story
How We Met
In the summer of 2013, we met at a church VBS-like program. We clicked instantly and quickly became close friends. Despite the 2.5-hour drive separating us, Sarah made the effort to visit Amanda regularly. Over the years, our friendship deepened as we bonded over our shared love for the horror film series Saw and our adventures discovering fun hangout spots. By 2021, our connection grew even stronger as we started watching Netflix movies together on the phone, which sparked romantic feelings. After a lively bingo game night, we confessed our feelings for each other, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The Proposal
On June 1, 2024, Amanda’s Maid of Honor, Courtney, orchestrated what seemed like a DIY tour of Central Park’s movie landmarks. After some strategic stalling, Courtney guided Amanda through “The Mall,” where Amanda’s friends were stationed with notes from Sarah, each adorned with photos and heartfelt messages from our years together. The path led to “Bow Bridge,” where Sarah awaited with our boys and a group of friends. As the song "Something Just Like This" played, Sarah, the kids dressed as Spiderman and Batman, and Amanda's friends performed a mini flash mob. At the end of the performance, Sarah expressed her love and proposed to Amanda.
In response, Amanda planned a special proposal of her own. On August 10, 2024, during a family vacation, Amanda chose Stewart Park by Cayuga Lake for the occasion. She arranged for a bench swing overlooking the water and dressed the boys in shirts that read, “Whale you marry her?” After finding the perfect spot, Amanda read a meaningful Scripture, shared her deep love and commitment, and had the boys kneel. Xavier held the ring box, while Ezra presented a pack of tissues labeled “For happy tears.” Both proposals were met with enthusiastic “yes” answers, marking the beginning of their next chapter together.
