Our Story
How We Met
We met online through an app that was just to find friends in your area. After talking for weeks, gaming together, and learning more about each other, he had told me he had never been to a zoo. Being the person I am, I told him to come visit and I would give him a tour while I'm on call. This little shit said, "Only if it's a date." ....... Well alrighty then! A date was set. About a week before the day Colter broke his foot. Bad Omen? Guess we will find out.
The day comes and we meet up at the movie theater as that would be our last stop. I drive us to the zoo and give him a big tour while pushing him around in a wheel chair. (No I didn't push him down the hill) We then went to eat where I had planned on paying since he drove an hour to meet me. Colter had other plans. He wanted to pay and the waitress was on his side! Rude, but ok. The waitress comes back. His card declined. HA! I win, so I paid for our meals and we headed out. On the way to the theater I dropped off my left overs to a friend and not even a block away from our destination I get pulled over. What are the odds? After questioning me for no reason he lets us go and we get to our movie. Afterwards, I get an awkward side hug from him and he takes off. I thought that was it and he would never talk to me again after our disaster of a 1st date and yet here we are, 6 years later, finally engaged!
The Proposal
BEST PROPOSAL EVER! Not only was it unique and the 1st of its kind at Chahinkapa Zoo, but Colter teamed up with my mom and Kathy (the zoo director) to make it the absolute greatest experience in one of the most significant places in my life. I was told we were going to do a lemur feeding with the family before he had to go back to Iowa for work. The lemurs must have known something was up, because according to Kathy it was the best behaved they had ever been. With lemurs surrounding us and one on my lap he pulls out a ring he was hiding under the lemur snacks and gives the quietest, sweetest little speech. Yes he was super nervous. Of course I ugly cried and said yes! As if it couldn't get any better, the lemur on my lap helped put the ring on my finger. We then went on a tour through the zoo feeding more critters and grinning ear to ear. My face hurt for 2 days after from all the smiles. We will never forget that magical moment in time.
