Our Story
How We Met
Maya and Hunter met at Allegheny College completely unaware of their future love story! After graduation, Maya traveled around Europe furthering her education and Hunter traveled around the nation's Marriotts for work. In December of 2021 a chance meeting at one of Pittsburgh's premier dive bars found them with a lot to catch up on, and the in the following months they went from completely opposed to long-distance to a 410 mile relationship stretching over most of the Appalachians.
During the years of distance their love grew through constant texting, late night FaceTime calls, and long weekends together that felt much too short. Their shared love of travel and exploration (going out to new restaurants) bolstered their time together, and their shared consumption of film (anime) and culture comforted them while they were apart.
In July of 2023 and with great personal sacrifice as a proud New Yorker/Northerner, Maya moved to Greenville, South Carolina to find that spending every day together was definitely way better. They found joy in sharing the same couch, grocery shopping together, and deleting the 'countdown to next visit' app from their phones.
In February of 2024 Hunter had major abdominal surgery which kept him nearly immobile for 3 months. During this time, like all times, Maya was absolutely amazing. She spent every day in the hospital and was a full time caretaker. All of the nurses asked why Hunter hadn't married her yet, when Maya was out of earshot he would tell them he had already bought the ring!
The Proposal
On May 11th 2024 Maya was on a weekend girl's trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Unbeknownst to her, Hunter had driven up early in the morning and was waiting in the Biltmore Gardens with the ring and a fair bit of nerves. Soon after the sun rose, Maya entered the gardens and nearly short circuited when she saw Hunter down on one knee. She was taken completely by surprise, and the acceptance was followed by a lovely day of flowers, wine, and photos.
