Our Story

How We Met

Caleb had recently started a new job in San Antonio when we connected on the dating app, Hinge. I was attracted on the poor quality of his photos that made me think he might be a high quality man, not concerned with the perfect selfie. Our first date was tacos and margaritas at Sancho's Cantina and Cocina, a favorite of mine. The evening was spent swapping travel nurse/PT stories, inquiring about hobbies, family, and lots of eye contact-both of us really liking what we were seeing and hearing. We couldn't wait long to hang out again, our second date was Jin-ya ramen and Top Golf 2 days later. Caleb lived in a cool old house in a great inner city neighborhood. One evening I thought I'd impress him with all my cool, fun ideas. I brought 2 bikes over and we were going to bike to La Fonda, one of my other favorite restaurants. On the ride over my brakes began to lock up and I couldn't peddle at all. Needless to say I was embarrassed when we had to turn around and walk the bikes back to his house. But we laughed about it and enjoyed a delicious dinner. And its been like that ever since. We laugh through the good and the bad, pivot when things don't go our way, and love and support one another the best we can and finally, remain grateful.

The Proposal

We were coming off a wonderful weekend in Austin where we celebrated Caleb's 33rd birthday with a couple of his best friends, Cain and Brooks. I had just worked a 13 hr shift and came home to find a smiling Caleb with something up his sleeve. He had prepared a steak dinner with my favorite sides, roasted tomatoes and pesto pasta. He had a beautiful bouquet arranged on the table with a hand written card. No sooner had I set my bags down Caleb dropped on one knee and presented my Grandma Villejo's diamond ring in an ivory velvet box. I finally connected the dots and with the adrenaline, I guess, my hearing failed me as I watched him mouth, probably some really sweet things. I felt a surge of love and an emotional filling in my chest, I wanted to embrace him! Before I could he handed me a card to read which I did but again, my eyesight/comprehension failed. I just knew I wanted to say "YES!" and kiss his lips. Which I did- with happy tears.. Let me tell you, he makes a delicious steak.
