How We Met
Technically, we met in an advanced art class in middle school. Seventh-grade Zach sat at the “cool kids” table, and sixth-grade Morgan sat with her friends at another. We didn’t grow close until a few years later. On the first day of band camp, Morgan instructed Zach to tell Lena that she had a beautiful speaking voice, and he eagerly obliged. But we were just friends then, and we told our match-making mutuals as much until, finally, we became more.
The Proposal
Morgan thought it was a spontaneous trip to Lake Placid. Evidently, Zach is really good at surprises. We dressed up for a fancy dinner (the kind of fancy where the waitstaff gives you hot hand towels before seating you). We arrived early, and Zach took us to a dock near the restaurant to "take a selfie." He stumbled on the walk (probably because the ring box was in his dress sock). We took that selfie, and Morgan self-consciously asked to leave when she saw a photographer who she thought was trying to photograph the lake. And then Zach knelt, and Morgan learned that the photographer specialized in surprise engagements.
