Our Story
How We Met
Corey and Katie met back in 2019 in Chapel Hill when App State beat UNC 34-31. Katie attended the game solo and Corey was with his family and roommate, Seth (although Corey never made it back to his seat after talking with Katie). The pair continued to get to know each other through their Campus Ministry, The Wesley Foundation. Corey officially asked Katie to be his girlfriend at Tweetsie Railroad on October 25, 2019 and they have continued to celebrate their anniversary at the park for the past three years.
The Proposal
July 14, 2022 was truly a day to be remembered forever. It started out as a bunch of 'firsts' for Katie as it was the first day she was able to walk without a leg brace since her knee surgery in March. Later that morning, she received her acceptance into the Student Affairs Administration masters program at Appalachian State University along with a full ride scholarship. Already excited, she looked forward to joining Corey for dinner at Olive Garden down the mountain in Wilkesboro, NC. She dressed up in periwinkle blue (which later became their wedding colors) and Corey picked her up- seemingly uncharacteristically nervous (although Katie did not notice). Their dinner was lovely, and as they were driving back up the mountain, Corey pulled off onto the Blue Ridge Parkway to allow them to watch the sunset. Little did Katie know, he had been planning this evening for over a month, down to the exact spot he would park his Pontiac Grand Am to capture the moment on film. When the sunset was just right, Corey got down on one knee... and well the rest was history!
