How We Met
Like every great love story, we met in the gym.
The Proposal
Shane proposed to Erin on a stunning July afternoon in Lake Tahoe, just one day before their Ragnar ultra marathon—because he wisely knew that proposing after trying to keep up with her for 30+ miles was a losing game. Smart man.
The plan? A casual hike with friends to "check out the views." At least, that’s what Shane told Erin. So off they went, Erin in one car, Shane leading the charge in another, caravanning through winding mountain roads framed by towering pines and the sparkling waters of Emerald Bay.
It was all very peaceful and picturesque—until the car Erin was in had to slam on the brakes to avoid rear-ending Shane’s car, which had stopped in the middle of the road like it was auditioning for a crash-test dummy video. "WHO STOPS LIKE THAT?!" Erin thought, glaring at the driver and the front seat passenger she’d later agree to marry. In reality, Shane and crew were frantically scouting for the most photogenic proposal pull-off, because nothing says romance like panic-parking on a mountain road.
Eventually, after what felt like the slowest scenic detour in history (and maybe a mild case of car sickness), they found the spot. Everyone clambered out—legs wobbly, stomachs queasy—but smiles on. The group headed toward the lake, when Shane casually asked Erin to take a photo with him. She turned around to strike a pose... and found him down on one knee, holding her great-great-grandmother's engagement ring.
The hike never happened. But the "yes" did.
