Our Story
How We Met
As many of you know, Travis and I met online- on Tinder. I (Audrey) had jokingly downloaded the app while at top golf with my friend Sydney. Upon matching on the app, Travis and I immediately had a strong connection. We chatted frequently over the phone for a few weeks before meeting in person on Travis's 25th birthday at The Max Club in Omaha. I was definitely nervous as meeting a stranger at a club was wildly out of my comfort zone. I had brought one of my friends along "just in case". However, immediately after meeting, Travis made me feel so safe and cared for. The conversation was so fun and easy and we danced and sang all night long. Feeling bold, I invited Travis back to my apartment, simply because I did not want the most amazing night of my life with this remarkable man to end. We stayed up all night long talking and laughing- all the way until 7 am. I know it sounds corny, but I knew I had met my husband. I told all my family and friends I knew he was the one for me. After each one of my family and friends met Travis they knew I was right- that we were perfect for each other.
The Proposal
The day that we became engaged was a warm Saturday in March, shortly before Audrey's birthday. I had just come back from Texas, having helped to care for my uncle who just had a surgery. I was gone for three weeks, which is longest time Audrey and I had been apart since we first started dating. I told myself that I wanted to wait until we had really experienced and gotten to know each other before getting engaged, however during my time in Texas I had a reality check. I missed being in her presence, and although it was only three weeks, it felt like a lifetime apart! (I'm being dramatic, but hey it was long for me so it is what it is!) I realized that I didn't ever want to be apart from Audrey again, so I decided there with my uncle that I would propose to Audrey when I got back home. I began reaching out to her sisters and friends to get ideas on how I should do it, and I want to give a special thanks to Kaitlyn and Sydney, as these two really helped me craft the perfect proposal. I then took Audrey's dad, Rob, out to dinner at Blue Sushi to talk about life, family, goals, and lessons learned from his experience as a husband and father. I asked Rob for Audrey's hand that night and he said with open arms, "Welcome to the family!". Leading up to the proposal, Audrey being the sleuth she started to get suspicious of what I was doing and began telling her friends and family that she had a feeling I was going to propose! Little did she know, they were all double agents and were working with me to keep it a surprise. However, Audrey still trusted her instincts and was so sure that I was going to propose because of a little text that Rob sent to her. So, I had to think quickly and on the day of, I took Audrey out to get a new dress, spent the entire day with her and then right before I took her to the place I was going to propose, we went wedding ring shopping! A genius move on my part, and Audrey was completely thrown off. I then took Audrey to the Lewis and Clark Monument in Council Bluffs, which outlooks all of Omaha and the airport. We watched the sunset together, and then I popped the question as the sun was almost set. It was the perfect moment, and my best friend/man Curtis caught the moment. As they say, the rest was history, but I can't thank everyone who helped contribute to this moment enough. I will forever be grateful to you for making this moment special for Audrey and myself!
