Our Story
How We Met
We met in an online writing group in 2021 and became friends, but quite quickly it blossomed into something more. Despite 3,000 miles of ocean between us, we made it work. In December of 2021, we met for the first time in person in New York City. Since then, we've been traveling back and forth between America and England, getting to know each other's friends, families, cultures and, perhaps most importantly, cuisines. (Americans--did you know in England you have to pay extra to get "regular" soda? English soft drinks have much less sugar than ours, so if you want to buy the soda you're used to, you have to pay something called sugar tax. Brits--did you know they put sugar in American bread? Even our Italian bread and baguettes will taste sweet to you because they have added sugar, and us Americans don't even notice. But don't worry, we'll find some unsweet imported bread for you while you're here!)
In May 2024, our marriage visa was finally approved, and now we can start the rest of our lives together with no watery barrier or time difference!
The Proposal
Jay proposed at the very same place we had our first kiss. It was sunset and the Manhattan skyline was behind us. (But Alison also had a ring in her pocket. Turns out that Jay wasn't as subtle as she thought!)
